Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that can harness those abilities and amplify the natural growth factors your body uses to heal tissue.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, also known as The Vampire Facelift, harnesses the body’s own healing powers to stimulate new tissue growth, giving your skin a healthy, more youthful appearance. The treatment involves taking a small amount of the patient’s blood and separating plasma out from the rest of the blood, by using a centrifuge to create the platelet rich plasma.
Plasma consists of a clear liquid part of the blood once all other cellular components are removed. It is composed largely of water and proteins, and it provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to circulate through the body. Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are blood cells that cause blood clots and other necessary growth healing functions. Plasma carries out powerful functions in the body such as fighting diseases, healing and hydration.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing and regeneration. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems.
PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.
When the PRP is re-injected into the skin, the platelets release growth factors. This promotes healing and stimulates collagen production. Collagen, found naturally in the body, is the foundation of a youthful appearance. During the aging process the body produces less collagen which results in decreased volume, lines and wrinkles. By stimulating collagen production, PRP helps to promote even skin tone, reduces scarring, improves skin texture, making the skin healthy, resilient and hydrated.

Areas that can be treated with PRP include around the eyes, the jaw line, cheeks forehead, nasolabial lines, marionette lines and neck.
For best results it is advised to complete the course of 3 treatments of Platelet Rich Plasma therapy at 4-6 weeks intervals.
The results of PRP therapy can be expected to last up to 18 months. A one-off treatment, can be expected to last for several months.
Patients with abnormal platelet function, clotting disorders and chronic liver disease are not suitable for PRP therapy. Please remember to disclose your relevant medical history with Nurse Maya during your consultation.
Injector Maya will apply a numbing cream prior to treatment to make the process more comfortable. Most clients experience mild discomfort which is the result of the injections.
The injection process may cause some bruising, swelling and tenderness which will subside within 24hours. Clients are advised to wear face cream with filters and avoid direct sun exposure.
As the platelets are the patients’ own there is no risk of transmissible diseases or allergic reactions. Infection risk is minimized by ensuring sterile technique and equipment. Nurse Maya is a highly trained medical practitioner with a license to practice.
