BIOFILLER TREATMENT

BioFiller, also known as autologous plasma gel, is a regenerative injectable treatment created from a small sample of the patient’s own blood. The plasma is carefully separated and processed using a controlled system to create a smooth, gel-like material that can be injected into selected areas of the face.

The treatment combines gentle volumisation with the regenerative properties of plasma. It may help soften lines, restore subtle volume and improve the overall quality, texture and appearance of the skin.

Unlike conventional dermal fillers, BioFiller does not contain manufactured hyaluronic-acid gel. Because it is prepared from the patient’s own blood, it may be an attractive option for suitable patients seeking a natural and personalised approach to facial rejuvenation.

BioFiller is not intended to create dramatic projection or structural reshaping. Results are generally softer and less predictable than those achieved with traditional dermal fillers, and the gel is gradually absorbed by the body.

HOW IS BIOFILLER PREPARED?

A small amount of blood is collected from your arm, similarly to a routine blood test. The blood is placed into a specialised centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells.

The selected plasma component is then processed under controlled conditions, according to the system and clinical protocol being used, until it forms a soft injectable gel.

The BioFiller is administered using a fine needle or cannula. The entire preparation and treatment process is completed during the same appointment, and the material is prepared exclusively for the individual patient.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

BioFiller provides a temporary gel-like structure beneath the skin, helping to soften selected lines, hollows and areas of mild volume loss.

Depending on the plasma component and preparation method used, the treatment may also contain proteins and biological components that support tissue repair and skin regeneration.

BioFiller is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. Its consistency, lifting capacity and longevity can vary because it is a biological material prepared individually from each patient’s blood.

PRP is a liquid preparation containing concentrated platelets and is generally used to support skin or scalp regeneration. BioFiller is processed to create a thicker, gel-like consistency that can provide a degree of soft tissue support and temporary volume.

In some cases, BioFiller and PRP may be incorporated into the same personalised treatment programme.
No. Traditional dermal fillers are usually made from cross-linked hyaluronic acid and are manufactured to provide predictable structure, projection and longevity.

BioFiller is produced from the patient’s own plasma. It generally provides softer volumisation and may be absorbed more quickly or less predictably than a conventional filler.

Importantly, plasma BioFiller cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase in the way that most hyaluronic-acid fillers can. This will be explained during the consent process.
Depending on the patient’s anatomy and clinical suitability, BioFiller may be considered for:
  • Tear troughs
  • Under-eye skin
  • Cheeks

BioFiller is not always appropriate for areas requiring strong structural support, precise contouring or significant projection.
BioFiller may provide very subtle improvement around the mouth, but it is generally not the preferred treatment for creating defined lip shape, projection or long-lasting volume.

If your goal is lip augmentation, a suitable hyaluronic-acid dermal filler may provide a more predictable result. Injector Maya will discuss the safest and most appropriate option during your consultation.
Some patients may achieve a satisfactory result after one treatment, while others may benefit from a second session after the area has settled.

The recommended number of treatments depends on:
  • The area being treated
  • The degree of volume loss
  • Skin condition
  • The amount and quality of plasma obtained

  • Individual response and rate of absorption
A review appointment may be arranged to assess the result and determine whether further treatment is appropriate.
A soft volumising effect may be visible immediately after treatment. However, some of the initial fullness will be caused by swelling and will reduce as the area settles.

Any improvement in skin quality is expected to develop more gradually. The final result should normally be assessed after approximately two to four weeks.
BioFiller is gradually absorbed by the body. Results commonly last approximately three to six months, although the duration varies considerably between patients.

The result may be affected by:
  • The preparation technique
  • The area treated
  • The amount injected
  • Facial movement
  • Metabolism
  • Lifestyle
  • Age and skin condition
BioFiller is generally less predictable and may not last as long as some hyaluronic-acid dermal fillers.
Blood is collected from the arm at the beginning of the appointment. During the facial treatment, you may feel pressure, stinging or mild discomfort.

A topical or local anaesthetic may be used when clinically appropriate. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, but individual sensitivity varies.
Most patients can return to their normal activities shortly after treatment. However, temporary swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising are expected.

Under-eye swelling may be more noticeable the following morning and can occasionally take several days to settle. Avoid arranging treatment immediately before an important event.

  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Mild pain or burning
  • Small injection marks
  • Temporary asymmetry
  • Firmness or palpable product
  • Short-term irregularity while the area settles
Less common complications may include:
  • Infection
  • Prolonged swelling or inflammation
  • Persistent lumps or unevenness
  • Poor or unpredictable correction
  • Early or uneven absorption
  • Skin discolouration
  • Scarring
  • Reaction to an anticoagulant, anaesthetic or another material used during preparation
  • Injury to a nerve or blood vessel
As with any injectable filler placed in the face, accidental injection into or compression of a blood vessel is a rare but serious risk. This may cause reduced blood supply, tissue damage, scarring and, in extremely rare circumstances, visual disturbance or loss of vision.

BioFiller is not a hyaluronic-acid product and cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Urgent assessment is therefore essential if severe pain, blanching, mottled discolouration, cool skin or any visual symptoms develop.
BioFiller may not be suitable for people who:
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are under 18
  • Have an active infection or inflammatory condition
  • Have a cold sore or active skin lesion near the treatment area
  • Have an uncontrolled bleeding or platelet disorder
  • Have severe anaemia or certain blood conditions
  • Are taking anticoagulants or medicines that significantly affect clotting
  • Have an uncontrolled autoimmune or immune-system condition
  • Are immunosuppressed
  • Have active cancer or are receiving certain cancer treatments
  • Have a history of significant problems following blood collection
  • Are medically unwell on the day of treatment
  • Have unrealistic expectations or require a result BioFiller cannot safely provide
Some medical conditions or medications require individual assessment rather than automatic exclusion. Do not stop any prescribed medication unless advised by the clinician responsible for your care.
Before your appointment:
  • Inform Injector Maya about all medical conditions, allergies, supplements and medications
  • Disclose any history of cold sores
  • Avoid alcohol for approximately 24 hours
  • Keep well hydrated and eat normally before blood collection
  • Avoid non-essential supplements that may increase bruising, if clinically appropriate
  • Arrive without make-up where possible
Do not discontinue aspirin, anticoagulants or any prescribed medication without medical advice.
Following treatment, you will normally be advised to:
  • Avoid touching, rubbing or massaging the treated area unless instructed
  • Avoid make-up for at least 12 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for approximately 24 hours
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot baths and excessive heat for 48 hours
  • Avoid swimming for at least 48 hours
  • Avoid facials, massage and other procedures until the area has healed
  • Avoid strong acids, retinoids and irritating skincare products for several days
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF and avoid excessive sun exposure
  • Contact the clinic promptly if you experience unexpected or worsening symptoms
You will receive personalised aftercare instructions following your procedure.
BioFiller may be incorporated into a wider rejuvenation programme alongside treatments such as:
