Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing and regeneration. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient’s own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems. PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces.   When the PRP is re-injected into the skin, the platelets release growth factors. This promotes healing and stimulates collagen production. Collagen, found naturally in the body, is the foundation of a youthful appearance. During the aging process the body produces less collagen which results in decreased volume, lines and wrinkles. For best results it is advised to complete the course of 3 treatments of Platelet Rich Plasma therapy at 4-6 weeks intervals.  How long does PRP therapy last? The results of PRP therapy can be expected to last up to 18 months. A one-off treatment, can be expected to last for several months. Who is not a suitable candidate for PRP treatment? Patients with abnormal platelet function, clotting disorders and chronic liver disease are not suitable for PRP therapy. Injector Maya will apply a numbing cream prior to treatment to make the process more comfortable. Most clients experience mild discomfort which is the result of the injections.  Is there any downtime? The injection process may cause some bruising, swelling and tenderness which will subside within 24hours. Clients are advised to wear face cream with filters and avoid direct sun exposure.  Is PRP treatment safe? As the platelets are the patients’ own there is no risk of transmissible diseases or allergic reactions. Infection risk is minimized by ensuring sterile technique and equipment. After the intradermal therapy session, avoid massage, ultrasound and hair removal procedures to the treated areas for at least 24 hours. Avoid applying creams or other products unless after consulting with Injector Maya.   After the session and for a few days, do not expose yourself to the sun and UVA rays to avoid spots corresponding to the micro-lesions produced by the needle. It is good to know that the repair of these micro-lessons involves a slight inflammation that increases the skin’s sensitivity to solar radiation with an increase in pigmentation. Is mesotherapy painful? Pain perception is different in treated skin regions, and it also depends on the individual sensitivity. However, the discomfort is often well-tolerated. The mesotherapy treatment is performed by using a very small needle and is not a particularly uncomfortable process. How long does a mesotherapy session last? Usually, an intradermal therapy session lasts from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent and number of areas to be treated. Are there any contraindications to mesotherapy? An absolute contraindication to mesotherapy is the chances of allergy to the ingredients of the solution to be injected. It should be highlighted that allergic reactivity can develop late, after the treatment period, without any manifestation of sensitivity. So be very specific when talking to your specialist. In the presence of chronic systemic diseases, Injector Maya will evaluate the advisability or not of a therapeutic or aesthetic intradermal treatment. The modest volume of the compound used for each injection causes a tiny swelling in the dermis, destined to disappear in a few hours. At the injection sites local reactions may occur due to the microtrauma caused by the needle, as well as the chemical-physical and biochemical activity of the drug. The client can develop erythema (redness); slight bleeding; bruising or minor bruises; infrequent local infectious complications. These reactions subside naturally in a few days without leaving any marks on the skin.

There might be visible lumps of deposited product where each of the injection sites have been. They will evenly spread and subside within 1-3 days.
